How Billing Works

Your total hourly training cost is calculated as:

Aircraft Hourly Rate + Instructor Hourly Rate

This structure allows you to clearly see how your training investment is calculated for each lesson.

Pre-Flight & Post-Flight Briefings

Each scheduled lesson includes one (1.0) hour of instructor time dedicated to pre-flight and post-flight briefing. This ensures proper preparation, review, and knowledge development. Briefing time is added to the total billed instruction time.

Extended and Full-Day Training

Extended training sessions are billed at the applicable aircraft and instructor hourly rates.

Instruction exceeding 12 hours in a single day, or training that requires overnight travel, will be billed at the applicable full pilot day rate.

Flight Training Cost Overview

The total cost of flight training varies based on the aircraft you choose, as each aircraft type carries different operating and rental rates that directly impact the overall investment required to earn your certificate.

For detailed pricing information and personalized guidance tailored to your training goals, we encourage prospective students to contact our front desk. Our team will be happy to walk you through your options and help you plan the most efficient path forward.

Additional costs to consider

When planning for flight training, it’s important to look beyond aircraft and instructor time and consider the full scope of associated expenses. Having clear, straightforward information helps students better understand and prepare for the total investment required to earn a certificate or rating.

Gold Seal Online Ground School

Texas Skies Flight School partners directly with Gold Seal Online Ground School and uses their courses as our official online ground school provider. These programs support students not only in preparing for the FAA knowledge exam, but also in building the foundation needed for the full certificate or rating.

  • Private Pilot Ground School: $229

  • Instrument Pilot Ground School: $229

  • Commercial Pilot Ground School: $229

Additional Common Expenses

  • FAA Medical Exam: Required to ensure students meet the health standards necessary to exercise pilot privileges.

  • FAA Written Exam: The FAA knowledge test required for each certificate or rating.

  • Check-ride (Practical Exam): The final evaluation where students demonstrate aeronautical knowledge and flight proficiency to an FAA-designated examiner.

Renters Insurance

Texas Skies Flight School requires all student pilots and aircraft renters to carry renters insurance at all times.

Policies may be obtained on a daily, monthly, or annual basis, depending on your training frequency and mission.

At a minimum, all policies must include:

  • $30,000 Non-Owned Aircraft Physical Damage Liability Coverage

  • $500,000 Bodily Injury and Property Damage Coverage (excluding Loss of Use)

To assist our students, TSFS has partnered with Avemco Insurance Company and Starr Insurance Company, both well-established aviation insurance providers offering competitive coverage options.
